ACOVENE (the
Accreditation Committee for Veterinary Nurse Education)
is an organization that accredits veterinary nurse
education programs in the EU. ACOVENE was established
as a foundation in 2007 to address the need for a European
accreditation system. Each country has its own way
of educating veterinary nurses, but the competences
of veterinary nurses throughout Europe are broadly
comparable.
ACOVENE has established accreditation standards
for programs based on the needs of employers, veterinary
nurses and educators, all of which groups are represented
within the organization. These accreditation standards
make it easier to compare programs and for veterinary
nurses graduating from an accredited school to
find employment in another country.
Every veterinary nurse education program within
the EU can apply for ACOVENE accreditation. To
become accredited, the program must comply with
the standards as outlined in the Accreditation
Policies and Procedures of ACOVENE. Where a professional
accreditation or approval system exists in the
country of the program, the programme must also
have this accreditation or approval.
